The price of steel plate comes down to its size, thickness, material and how it gets to you. This guide covers what changes the price and how to keep costs down, with links to our most popular base plates, sheet and road plates. Every product page shows the current price, including GST.
Steel base plates

- 150 x 150mm, no holes (6, 10 or 12mm)

Full 2400 x 1200mm sheets are collection only, with free pick-up from Blacktown. You'll need a ute, van or trailer, as they won't fit in a standard car.

What changes the price of steel plate?
- Thickness and size. The bigger and thicker the plate, the more steel it contains. A 12mm base plate costs more than a 6mm one of the same size.
- Cutting and holes. Laser cutting to size and adding bolt holes adds a little to the cost, but saves you time on the job.
- Material. Stainless steel costs more than mild steel because of the alloy content, but it won't rust, which matters outdoors and near the coast.
- Freight. Steel is heavy. Small parts such as base plates ship free. Full sheets are pick-up only, and road plates are quoted for delivery to your site.
- Quantity. Buying base plates in a set of 4 is cheaper per plate.
How to keep the cost down
- Choose a standard size where you can. Standard plates are cut in batches and cost less than one-off sizes.
- Only go as thick as the job needs. Check your engineer's or builder's specification before ordering.
- Order everything for the job at once, so it all comes in one delivery or one pick-up.
